Maclay School's Stefanie Kurgatt and Patrick Swain swept the individual titles at the Panhandle Championships cross country races Saturday morning.
Kurgatt posted an impressive victory in the girls race, claiming the win with a time of 17:47.62 in a talented field that included teammate Jana Stolting (17:53.27) and Chiles' Lily Williams (18:08.06), Carly Thomas (18:21.40) and Kendall Andrews (19:03.59). The five local runners swept the top five spots in the race.
Chiles' Jodie McGruff was 12th overall (19:17.84) and teammate Kelly Bahn was 18th (19:58.74), giving the Timberwolves 42 overall points and the team title.
Maclay was third in the girls' race and Leon, led by the 29th-place finish by Brooke Eubanks (20:44.21), was sixth. Florida High (11th), Wakulla (12th), Lincoln (14th), Altha (16th), Marianna (17th) and Godby (18th) also competed in the race.
